A Visit at Lisa's

I mentioned in the previous post that my girls spent a week at my sisters, but I also stayed a week up there when I went to pick the girls up. Lisa's church was having VBS, so I signed the girls up there as well.

We had a lot of fun. Delaney only lasted one day at VBS, when she decided that being around too many new people was not her cup of tea. So each day, we drove Jacob, Emily and Kaytlynn off at church for 3 hours and then Lisa and I shopped and ran errands with Delaney and Grace.

Something else we did was each day we watched a different American Girl movie. I don't know if you are familiar with these, but each one is a story of a fictional character during sometime in American history. Julia Roberts is the executive producer of them and they are really well done! We watched Felicity (1775 during the Revolution), Samantha (1904 during child labor abuse and women were fighting for their rights as well), Kit (1933, the Great Depression) and Molly (1943 WWII). ALL FIVE kids ages 4 -10, both male and female LOVED these little movies...so if you are looking for good, clean, family entertainment...there ya go!

One night we went to see my dad's garden. He was so happy. He had filled it with carrots, onions, peppers, corn, many different squashes, pumpkins, green beans, and tomatoes. I am sure I am missing something, but that is the gist. The kids got to pick peppers and green beans and then we went home and showed the kids how to snap them. The kids just loved it!

Thursday evening we spent the day at my parents house and celebrated Fathers Day a little early. We had Ribeye, potatoes, and corn on the cob....Practically a perfect dinner.

Friday night, Lisa's church had a family day to cap off VBS. They had about 10 different moonwalk activities (some were mazes, others had water slides, and one was a Laser Tag game) They had bungee jump activities, rock walls to climb, petting zoo complete with a ring tailed Lemur, and Pony rides. They also had popcorn, sno cones, etc. for everyone to enjoy. The weather was perfect and the kids had a ball. The petting zoo was their favorite part because they got to watch a goat poop...go figure. All of that entertainment, and they sit there and stare at a goats behind while it poops. My niece even tried to "wipe" the darn thing with grass, until we screamed DON"T!!!! Quite embarrassing and funny all the same!

We left on Sat. Got stuck in traffic. Bad accident less than a mile ahead of us (Thank you God that we weren't hurt). It took more than an hour of not moving, before they could clear the road. The girls were so antsy that I treated them to dinner at the Collin Street Bakery. If you aren't familiar with the Collin Street Bakery...look them up. They have been there forever and make delicious cookies (though they are known for their fruitcakes). We got home just before 11:00...one hour before Father's Day!

It was a great visit and we wished that we could have stayed.

Again...Thank you Lisa for being such an amazing sister.
